The Schooner OMF Ontario, a long-time project of the Oswego Maritime Foundation, is currently in a Sodus Point shipyard for repair. The work being performed on the hull is a result of the damage done by steel-eating microbes, apparently present in the stagnant waters at the shipyard in Oswego where the OMF Ontario was built.

From Jim Miller's article Hull of a Job:
A 25-year effort by the Oswego Maritime Foundation to build the OMF Ontario "planned as a floating classroom" was nearly complete when hull damage caused by microbes was discovered. Now, work to replace the hull is being done in Sodus Point. (Finger Lakes Times 27-May-2009)

Seth C. Burgess Said,
I hope we get to see much more of the beautiful OMF Ontario here in northern Wayne County--of course under more fully operational circumstances!
What a great idea to get children out of the confines of the school building for a day to learn about Lake Ontario and perhaps some of their local ports and embayments.

I saw this vessel sailing into Sodus Bay last summer and I'm looking forward to seeing the beautiful thing underway again!
