SUBMITTED by Jerry Ashley, Lyons Main Street Program Manager (15-May-2009)
I had the extreme pleasure of announcing the names of eight outstanding students from Lyons High School last evening at the Lyons Main Street Program's 1939 Movie Retrospective as our newly formed "Lyons Youth Ambassadors". The Lyons Youth Ambassador Program focuses on the scholastic and leadership achievements of selected high school students and acknowledges the necessity to have a direct relationship between the Lyons Main Street Program, The Lyons Central School District, various Lyons Civic and Fraternal Organizations and the Town and Village Boards. The students that were nominated and selected by the staff of Lyons High School are: Juniors - Joanna DeVries, Ariel Palone, Gino Colatarci, and Vaughn Faison; Sophomores - Kayla James, Carla Lash, Lucas Aunkst, and David Perry.
The Lyons Youth Ambassadors will act as a liaison between the Lyons High School and all other organizations in Lyons. They will represent the Lyons Central School District at every public or organizational event and festival. Individually, they will make short presentations to any interested organization to discuss the latest events and happenings at the school and to promote youth community involvement. This is a great opportunity for the students as they will meet and work with local civic leaders and work with the Lyons Main Street Program to advance its' goals of revitalizing Lyons as a point of destination in Wayne County and on the Erie Canalway. Please join me in congratulating these exemplary students as they shoot for the stars!
In the above photograph, you will find on the first row: Carla Lash, Joanna DeVries, Ariel Palone, and Kayla James. Second row: Gino Colatarci, Vaughn Faison, Lyons Main Street Program Manager Jerry Ashley, David Perry, and Lucas Aunkst.
