Citizens gathered on Community Pride Day in Newark, New York on Saturday 9 May 2009. Many started the day at the Port of Newark and registered there for the Pride Day event, as individuals or as representatives of a community organization. Manning the registration table and greeting all volunteers with words of encouragement was Village Clerk Lee Mikewicz. Wegmans and Dunkin Donuts provided coffee and snacks at the registration table to get the day started. People were either assigned a location to perform the Spring touch-up or went off to do the work surrounding the properties of their local organizations.

The below slideshow includes photos of volunteers working at the Port of Newark, Central Park, Park Presbyterian Church, Alex Eligh Community Center, K&M DeMay Skate Park, Newark Volunteer Fire Department, and the Lockville Historic Canal Park.

At 1300 Newark volunteer citizens re-grouped at the Alex Eligh Community Center--after a morning of hard work--for a vast spread of food made available by Wegmans, Domino's, and McDonald's. Newark Mayor Peter M. Blandino was one of the smiling faces behind the counter serving volunteers.
