Only Angels Have Wings will be the next movie in the Lyons Main Street Program's 1939 Retrospective Series. Director Howard Hawks deserves a retrospective series all his own, having made such classic films as Bringing Up Baby, Sergeant York, His Girl Friday and To Have and Have Not.

The setting here is a small South American town where Cary Grant and his team are running an air mail service. As if challenging the Andes isn't enough, see how the drama escalates when showgirl Jean Arthur AND Cary's old flame Rita Hayworth both arrive on the scene. Some critics' comments: "Perfection that defies scrutiny..;" "one of the sublime action movies of the era;" "a quintessential adventure-aviation film with drama, dark fatalism, suspense and romance that is stocked with true-to-life sequences."

See it Thursday, May 28th at 7 p.m. at the Ohmann Theatre, 65 William Street in Lyons. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for youngsters under 13.

Thanks for the note Stuart. As a rule Wayne County Life doesn't delete anything...the posts are all left online as a matter of historical record. Sort of like searching the microfiche at the public library, except at the tip of your fingertips from home! Or at least it will have that sort of value in the future...
