SUBMITTED by Jerry Ashley, Lyons Main Street Program Manager (1-July-2009)
It is with much pride that the Lyons Main Street Program announces that our highly anticipated new Village sign will be installed / unveiled tomorrow, July 2nd at 1:15 pm at the intersection of Water Street and Highway 14 / Geneva Street. The installation of the sign signals new beginnings for Lyons where we will actively seek new businesses and tourists to make Lyons a point of destination in Wayne County, New York. This project would not have been possible if it were not for the efforts of The Winston Dobbins Family, The Board, Committees and Volunteers of the Lyons Main Street Program, The Winston Dobbins Old Geezer Network (a very special thank you to Andrea Evangelist), The Village of Lyons, The Town of Lyons, The Lyons Chamber of Commerce, Lagasse Works (Dan Lagasse), CQ Signs (Peter Miller), Mack's Body Shop (Gary Shumway) and the Ohmann Theatre.
All of the money that has been made at the Lyons Main Street Program's 1939 Film Retrospective at the Ohmann Theatre was added to the memorial donations made in Winston Dobbins' name through the Chamber of Commerce to pay for this first sign in a series of three phases. The Lyons Main Street Program will continue its efforts to collect the funds necessary to complete all phases of the new village sign project which will include a second gateway sign to be installed at the traffic triangle at the intersection of 14 and Queen Street as well as numerous other signs to be installed on all major approaches to Lyons. Please join us tomorrow for the installation / unveiling of the sign.
