The Wayne County Historical Society’s Museum of Wayne County History will have its next History at Night on Thursday 16 July 2009. The topic is “Community Health and Safety and Disaster Preparedness” and will be hosted by Wayne County Red Cross Disaster Coordinator, Dwight “Woody” Seufert and Director of Community Health and Safety, Sandy Porpilia.
After the talk attendees are invited to enjoy hors d’ouevres and tour the exhibition Wayne County Red Cross: Their Story and the rest of the Museum. The exhibit features many of the Museum’s collection of Red Cross items and also some of the Wayne County Chapter of the American Red Cross’ own memorabilia. Some items of interest are wooden dolls dressed in Red Cross outfits; a WWI Christmas poster belonging to one of the original members of the Lyons office of the Red Cross, Eleanor Young; Mary Hotchkiss’s Red Cross uniforms and scrapbook donated to the exhibit by her sister Anne Hotchkiss of Lyons; and iPods that play sound bytes by celebrity Red Cross members like Shirley Temple and Gary Cooper.
