SUBMITTED by Carol May, Trail Works, Inc. President (9-Aug-2009)

As Chris Kenyon--Writer, Outdoor Enthusiast, and Promoter for Wayne County Tourism--shared his favorite local hiking and nature gems, heads nodded in recognition and smiles of memories on the various Wayne County trails were seen to creep across the faces of the 22 people who gathered at Lyons Recreation Center on Thursday evening, 6 August 2009.

Chris’s talk “Discovering the Wonders of Wayne County” was the first in a series of presentations made possible through a grant from Parks and Trails New York. Chris, local Outdoor columnist (Williamson Sun and Sodus Record, Finger Lakes Times), shared his hiking journal reflections and encouraged his audience to try journaling. Trail Works provided the journals, participants took a short hike to the edge of the woods outside the Center and spent quality time listening, looking, touching, smelling --- noting the input from the senses and then writing it down. Later, everyone had an opportunity to share their reflections. It is amazing how much we see and hear when we take the time to let nature work her wonders. As Chris said, “being in nature energizes you.”

Photos below were taken by Gene Bavis of Walworth, New York during the journaling exercise.
