In September, the sunset over Lake Ontario rapidly recedes from north to south. Soon the evening sun leaves the horizon from where water meets sky and assumes the lazy comfort of setting over Sodus Point, Pultneyville, adjacent shores, and lands southward. Wayne County sunsets will remain over land until near Spring, when the sunset will have traveled northward enough to again achieve burrow in that place where Ontario waters marry the Lake breeze. A summertime Lake Ontario sunset is a great beauty, and she needs sleep on her springbed of drumlin hills beneath a blanket of snow and cloud comforter during the "Cold Six".

The accompanying photos were shot from land east of Sodus Point on 3 September 2009.
