One of the highlights of the 2009 Harvest Festival in Lyons, New York was the Pumpkin Roll down Pearl Street. The event was organized by the Lyons Youth Ambassadors of the Lyons Main Street Program and was a hugely popular part of the brand new October festival.
Participants in the Pumpkin Roll entered individually selected pumpkins--having either brought their own from home or purchased one at the Festival for $1--and then payed a $1 fee to officially enter them into the contest. The first rolling pumpkin to reach the bottom of Pearl Street was awarded 50% of the contest entry proceeds.
