December 2009
It was my pleasure to present the 2009 Diann Roffe Award to Mr. Pete Wright. Mr. Wright is the President of the Library Board of Trustees, a member of the Williamson Central School District Board of Education and is involved in many other civic causes. The award was presented on December 12th at the Williamson Chamber of Commerce Business & Craft Expo at the high school. Mr. Wright is a very deserving winner of this annual citizenship award.
The Library Board of Trustees has announced that it wishes to make it more convenient to visit the Library. Beginning January 4th, the Library will open at 9:30 a.m. on Monday through Friday as opposed to 10:00 a.m. This change increases Library hours from 53 to 55.5 hours per week and will not require an increase in staff. In 2009, patrons visited the Library over 80,000 times.
Town Board meetings are conducted on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. However, the last Board meeting of the year is often changed to accommodate holiday schedules. This year the last Town Board meeting will be on the fifth Tuesday of December - December 29th. At this meeting, the Williamson Comprehensive Plan Steering Committee will present the proposed Comprehensive Plan for Williamson to the Town Board. A Public Hearing regarding the plan is scheduled for Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at 7:30 p.m. at which time comments form the public will be taken.
Councilman G. Elliott Warren is retiring at the end of this year. Mr. Warren has served as a member of the Town Board for over 30 years. I wish to thank Councilman Warren for his many years of service and wish him well in retirement.
If you need help with your heating bill, funding is available through the Wayne County Heating Assistance Program. Contact Dee Frey at 589-8211 or visit her office at the Town Complex.
You may want to check the culverts under your driveway for any blockages before we get too much more snow. Removing debris now may prevent flooding next spring.
Thanks are extended to the Williamson Garden Club for the holiday decorations along Main Street and at the Town Complex. This year the members placed 18 Christmas trees (four feet high) at various locations on Main Street. If you are interested in joining the Garden Club, please contact Garden Club President, Subrata Paul at Grow14589@gmail.com.
The end of 2009 marks my completion of six years as your Town Supervisor. This has been a truly rewarding experience. The support and cooperation I have received from the community is very much appreciated. I look forward to serving another term which begins next month.
I wish to thank the town workforce for their efforts in 2009. They provide essential services to you everyday. It is through their efforts that we have been able to hold the line on taxes and continue to make life a little better in Williamson each year.
This is the time of year when we hopefully have time for each other and are able to enjoy the comfort of having friends and family. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and health and happiness in 2010!
