Landscaping Projects at the Lyons Public Library

SUBMITTED by Theresa Streb, Lyons Public Library Director (4-Dec-2009)

During October and November 2009, various landscaping projects were undertaken at the Lyons Public Library, 122 Broad Street, in Lyons. A 4-H group from Alloway, under the leadership of Sharon Smith, placed various plants around the sign on the front lawn of the library and along the sidewalk leading up to the front steps. Dorie Talbo, president of the Friends of the Lyons Public Library and Susan Stone, assistant to the director, planted a mixture of spring bulbs around the front steps of the porch.

Theresa Streb, library director, met with Lauren Christler of Newark, a landscape architecture student, to plan the main landscaping for the library. After 3 meetings, Ms. Christler came up with exciting plans for the front and back of the library which were unanimously approved by the Board of Trustees as well as the Friends' Board of Directors. Q's Lawn and Landscape of Newark purchased the plants and then installed them during the week of Thanksgiving. The project was funded through donations, memorials and fundraising from the library and a generous donation from the Friends of the Library.

The plan on are view at the library near the circulation desk. Donations in memory or in honor of people are still being accepted at the library. A price list is available from Theresa Streb. For more information, call the Lyons Public Library at (315) 946-9262 or email lyonslibrary@owwl.org.
