SUBMITTED by Jerry M. Ashley, Lyons Main Street Program (22-Jan-2010)

It's the time of year where the LMSP is working to obtain a listing of events planned in Lyons for 2010. Our goal is to provide a clearing house of event information for our residents while assisting you in promoting your event to increase your event participation. The event listing could also be utilized by groups and businesses looking for ways to tag onto other planned events (i.e.: Peppermint Days, Lyons Fall Harvest Festival and Peppermint Winter Wonderland).

Business owners should make note of events that may bring in new customers. Look for ways that you can have a sales promotion or specials that will draw new clientele. Please submit the name of the event, the date and times of the event, applicable phone number and email or website where additional info is available as well as location information (please put event info in the subject line of your email) to our website webmaster at this email address:

webmasterlmsp@me.com

If your organization is having a garage/tag sale, car wash or other fund-raiser, send the pertinent information in MSWord format to the same webmaster address with public announcement in the subject line of your email.

The LMSP will be hosting the 2nd Annual Fall Harvest Festival on October 23rd, 2010 and it is never too early to claim your space and festival specialty (remember, for example, that only one booth can serve chili, another can serve soup, etc.). The booth rate of $25.00/$10.00 students applies this year and the Lyons Youth Ambassadors will be assuming the responsibilities of the Pearl Street Pumpkin Roll. The usual harvest themed games will return for the kids and the Fall Harvest Costume Parade and Street Dance will be scheduled for mid-late afternoon.

Peppermint Winter Wonderland grew in 2009 to include the first ever Light Up Lyons Holiday Lights Parade and organizational events throughout the village. For 2010, there will be the Lighting of the Park (November 27th), the parade (December 4th) and we are planning activities in the Village Square Park every weekend from Thanksgiving until New Year's Day.

We will be looking for community participation in the form of choirs (church and schools), music (individuals or groups), and theatrical or dance troupes. We are giving all Lyons' organizations first dibs on sponsoring food and/or beverage booths each weekend to raise funds. Our goal is to attract locals and county neighbors each and every weekend to downtown Lyons for the 6 holiday weekends. The LMSP will be working in tandem with the Lyons Chamber of Commerce to showcase winter activities and winter sport demonstrations throughout the duration of Peppermint Winter Wonderland. We are looking for volunteers from local organizations that will assist in organizing these opportunities for all of Lyons organizations to raise much-needed funds.

Finally, though not a LMSP event, the Peppermint Days Grand Parade will be held Saturday, July 10th, 2010. The LMSP will be assisting the Peppermint Days committee by organizing and hosting the 20th Anniversary Peppermint Days Grand Parade. We will be forwarding information soon regarding some fantastic changes to the Grand Parade including a completely new parade route and staging area to prevent congestion on our tight neighborhood roadways. We are especially looking for parade entertainment (music, dance or theatrical), car clubs and organizations. Again, this is another opportunity for businesses to enter a unit to advertise for free in front of a large captive audience. Please contact the LMSP office should you have questions or need further information. (315) 871-4220
