The first annual "Red & White Affair" was held this past Saturday (2/13) at Studebakers in Lyons. The event sponsored by the Lyons Main Street Program was a one of a kind fundraiser for the small community.
Dan & Sue LaGasse, were nominated and selected as the 2010 Red and White Couple of the evening.
Several door prizes were sponsored by local artisans (Denise Eaton, Sara Gurney, Karen Kehoe, Pat Olsen, Phil Paliotti, Donna Schuldt, Judy Shumway and Diana Wykle) while baskets of delights were donated by area residents and organizations for a silent auction.
"Overall, the fundraiser was a huge success.", said Jerry Ashley, Program Manager. The program raised over $4,000 to benefit various projects soon to be offered and benefited by the community.
A repeat from last year will be the Fall Harvest Festival with its fun filled Pumpkin Roll and the Light Up Lyons Holiday Lights Parade. New additions to the calendar will be the "Wailin' on the Water - Jazz on the Erie" which will be held on May 8, 2010.
Mr. Ashley was sure to note that "It was not me that pulled this off. This was the committee chaired by Karen Kehoe along with Andi Evangelist, Sharon Lubitow, Dawn Boeheim, Larry Ann Evans and Stephanie Knarr. "
The Lyons Main Street Program now moving into its second year is proud to announce that with its sister Main Street Programs, that two new villages will be joining in the Erie Canal Series of revitalized communities.
Many activities are already planned for 2010. Be part of the events and your community by volunteering on one or more of the several committees offered to make downtown Lyons great! You can view news, events and other great happenings at http://www.lyonsmainstreetprogram.org/.
