SUBMITTED by Ken Miller, Town of Palmyra (4-Mar-2010)
I hope everyone made it through the “snow event” (I guess that is what they call them now) that happened late last month. Once again, the Palmyra highway crew did a good job of plowing, salting, and in general keeping our roads safe. I believe all the snow lovers appreciated the respectable amount of snow that fell and I hope you enjoyed it.
We have some very interesting issues that are currently happening in Palmyra. The first is the committee that is reviewing the feasibility of a shared ambulance service. There are several “bits and pieces” of information being circulated about this topic. At this time, the board has received an overview of the potential to combine the services. The current recommendation is to combine the coverage of the town and village of Macedon with the town and village of Palmyra. The committee has scheduled time on Tuesday, 9 March 2010 during the Town Board meeting (starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Palmyra Town Hall) to present a summary of their findings. This is, as always, open for the public to join the board to view the presentation.
Other items we are acting on are the new Parker, Floodman, and Johnson Road Water Improvement Areas. We are currently in the process of scheduling a preconstruction meeting and this will kick off the ground breaking. Several residents in these areas are anxious to receive their water service.
The town has received a grant to purchase software that will act as a search engine for electronic records. This will eventually allow us to expedite the retrieval of records in all of the town departments, saving money. The implementation will start in the Clerks office and focus on vital information. This will include marriage, birth, and death records, as well as town board minutes.
Starting this month, I will be available until 7:00 p.m. on the second and fourth Wednesday at the Town Hall. I will also be in my office from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. the first and third Saturday. I encourage people to stop to discuss any concerns they have. If you wish to reserve a specific time please call ahead and we can lock you in.
On the County level, the board has stayed current on the issues of state spending reductions and their impact on us. We have reviewed the closing of the Butler Correctional Facility and the two state parks (Camp Beechwood and Chimney Bluffs) in our county. If you have any input for the board please visit us at a meeting or call and I will pass on all information.
In closing, lets all keep positive and “Think Spring.”
