Muralist James Zeger finished a second mural at Captain Jack's Good Time Tavern in Sodus Point on 5 March 2010. The new mural depicts a scene of the Sodus Point coal trestle during the early 1960s. The large coal boat being filled with coal from the trestle in the mural is the Fontana.

James Zeger worked on the Coal Trestle / Fontana mural for approximately one month. This mural is a little bit smaller than the first mural at Captain Jack's of the old pier lighthouse.

Coming from someone who spent countless hours as a kid watching the coal freighters, I must say that James' painting is just BEAUTIFUL!

One fact that I should throw in is that 1958 was the last year that the Fontana came in. It was replaced the following year by the "George F. Rand" of which I took photos at that time.

I'd love to see some photos of the coal boats. I was about 8 when the last ones came in, and I vividly remember running barefoot across the Park parking lot to the channel to see them go through. So glad to know the mural is up, and can't wait to see it!

What a step back to childhood these brought me. How true to what I remember. Awesome. Or maybe, more time specific - Cool!!!

The old Fontana has been imprinted in my memory since childhood. That and the Coalfax and the Fairfax. I lived just before the loop and remember all of them . Some anchored in the bay at night with the lights all lite waiting to get into the tressle whilke sound of the shakers on the tressle lulled me to sleep.
