Over the past month, downtown Lyons has seen really great and encouraging changes as new businesses open or existing businesses relocate while others expand hours of operation to coincide with the renewed interest and subsequent pedestrian traffic in the downtown historic district. The Lyons Main Street Program is extremely excited about these positive changes and wishes each of the following businesses and organizations well as we move forward with revitalization efforts in Lyons.
The Lyons Main Street Program extends a hearty welcome to Stoney's Pizza and BBQ. James (Jim) Stone succeeds previous owners of a pizzeria with a new BBQ twist. Stoney's still offers delicious pizza but has brought tasty and tangy BBQ to the menu. Located at the corner of Canal and William Streets, the restaurant offers Thursday night rib dinners and a Sunday chicken barbecue. Stoney's employs 10 Lyons residents that are ready to assist you with breakfast, lunch or dinner as well as catering for your social events. Give them a call at 946-0000.
To celebrate all of the activity in downtown Lyons, the Ohmann Theatre, located at 65 William Street, has announced a new seven-day-a-week schedule and an expanded weekend showing of great summer movies. Starting with this weekends' showing of "Shrek Forever After" and continuing throughout the summer months, the theatre will have showings at 7:30 pm Monday through Friday and at 2, 4:30 and 7:30 pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Gather up a group of friends and family and head to the historic restored Ohmann Theatre - home of FRESHLY popped popcorn with real butter. YUM! Admission prices can't be beat - $5.00 adults, $4.00 seniors and $3.00 for children 12 and under. Don't forget, the beautiful theatre is great for parties and recitals. Plan your wedding, birthday, retirement or graduation parties - or call about renting Fox's at the Ohmann for smaller events such as showers, receptions or meetings. The Wayne County Head Start Program has relocated to offices at 28 Canal Street. A happy worker at the offices of Head Start said "We are very excited to be housed at the hub of Wayne County!" and we're glad to have them! The LMSP extends a warm welcome to our new neighbors! Also relocating in downtown Lyons are the Humanity Lodge #406 Free and Accepted Masons and Order of the Eastern Star. The fraternal organizations are remodeling the storefronts at 7 and 9 Canal Street. The Order of the Eastern Star is an organization for women and men, who practice the principals of charity, truth and loving kindness by dedicated service to their communities and their members. Masonry teaches that each person has a responsibility to make things better in the world. Most individuals won’t be the ones to find a cure for cancer, or eliminate poverty, or help create world peace, but every man and woman and child can do something to help others and to make things a little better. Masonry is deeply involved with helping people — it spends more than $1.4 million dollars every day in the United States, just to make life a little easier. And the great majority of that help goes to people who are not Masons. Some of these charities are vast projects, like the Crippled Children’s Hospitals and Burns Institutes built by the Shriners. Also, Scottish Rite Masons maintain a nationwide network of over 100 Childhood Language Disorders Clinics, Centers, and Programs. Each helps children afflicted by such conditions as aphasia, dyslexia, stuttering, and related learning or speech disorders. Some services are less noticeable, like helping a widow pay her electric bill or buying coats and shoes for disadvantaged children. And there’s just about anything you can think of in-between. But with projects large or small, the Masons of a lodge try to help make the world a better place. The lodge gives them a way to combine with others to do even more good. Glad to have you downtown!!!

It is nice to learn that the Brethren of Humanity Lodge #406 will be in downtown Lyons to pursue the Craft and perform community service there.
The People of Lyons should know that such men are practiced in working from the inside out, as we all might aim to do for the benefit of our families and community.
