The fourth annual “Operation Clean Sweep” is scheduled for Saturday, May 8, 2010, which is the Saturday prior to the Williamson Apple Blossom Festival. Last year over 80 people gathered together to pick up litter, pull weeds, and help clean up the Main Street Business District area.
If you or your organization would like to participate this year please go to King’s Auto Service & Car Sales on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 9:00 a.m. Mike Orr, President of the Williamson Business Improvement District and proprietor of King’s Auto Service, will be on hand to provide rakes, garbage bags and other equipment needed for “Operation Clean Sweep.” Refreshments will be available.
It would be helpful, but not necessary, if you could let me know if you or your organization will be participating by sending an email to wmsonsupv@rochester.rr.com or calling my office at 589-2038. In any case, just show up if you can at King’s on Saturday.
Last month the Town of Williamson was awarded a grant from the NYS Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) for $287,261 for a solar PV system (solar panels) for the Town Complex. The Town’s “match” for this grant is $10,000. For an investment of $10,000 by the town, the solar PV system will produce approximately $6,000 a year in “Green Power” for up to 40 years. The Town is projected to recoup its investment in 20 months. The cumulative value of power produced over the life of system will likely exceed $250,000, considering the anticipated power cost escalation in future. The long term savings in energy costs can be invested in other conservation projects to further reduce energy costs.
The Annual Spring Cleanup at which you can discard unwanted household items at the old landfill site will be held this year on Thursday, May 6th from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 7th from 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 8th from 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The old landfill site is located on Pound Road. The fees are the same as last year and have been separately advertised and are posted on the Town website--http://town.williamson.ny.us.
This year permit cards were not mailed out. To drop items off you must show proof of residency or land ownership in the town of Williamson such as a Driver’s License, tax bill, cable bill etc. This is a change worked out with Town Clerk Marlene Gulick and the Town Board in an effort to save the cost of mailing out the cards.
