Summer Solstice (A Ballad)
Summer arrives on silent wings
and magical strings
play soft melodies
and comes now here the longest day
the shortest night
with birds in flight
on soft summer breeze;
let go the thoughts of ice and snow
beneath blue skies
and summers glow
think only of sun.
For summer’s come
a welcome guest
to ease all thoughts of dismalness
and soothe our withering spirits’ cries
the Solstices’ come, the dark defied
as now we lie
in fragrant grass
and watch the cloudless sky.
