Congratulations go to Williamson resident and proprietor of Bad to the Bone, Mack Cobbs, for winning the People’s Choice award at the third annual Roc City Rib Fest in Rochester over Memorial Day weekend.
Congratulations also go to Lorraine Mason. On June 9th, Mrs. Mason was presented the Great Neighbor Award for 2010 from Agri-Business Child Development at their Annual Corporation Meeting in Utica. Nilda Agosto, Director of the Lake Ontario ABCD on Tuckahoe Road nominated Lorraine for this award in "recognition of her spirit of partnership and dedication to children, families and community."
On June 6th I was pleased to participate in recognizing Eric Hepler for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Eric is a member of Boy Scout Troop 125. For his Eagle Scout project Eric repainted the basement hallway in the United Methodist Church on Main Street.
On June 13th I was pleased to help recognize Brian Redder for attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. Brian is a member of Boy Scout Troop 90. For his Eagle Scout project Brian raised 52,000 baby Chinook salmon in Sodus Bay.
I encourage you to visit our Main Street business area and see some of the recent improvements. The replacement of the sidewalk on the north side of Main Street from Route 21 to the Municipal Parking lot is now complete. Approximately 350 feet of old sidewalk was removed and replaced. A drainage trench was also installed which will address a longstanding drainage issue.
You may have noticed the recent replacement of plywood with glass windows at Gallo’s Department store. This is the most recent and visible use of the Main Street Revitalization Grant which was awarded in 2007 for $200,000 from the NYS Division of Housing and Community Renewal. Members of the Williamson Business Improvement District were eligible to receive 50% reimbursement for improvements. The grant has now ended. Four businesses involving five projects participated in the grant.
The Main Street Grant also included $15,000 for “streetscapes”. There are new benches, planters and bicycle racks along Main Street.
Main Street has a “pocket park” which is located in front of King’s Auto Sales and Service, next to the former China Garden. The Williamson Garden Club, working with Mike Orr, President of the Williamson Business Improvement District, built Main Street’s first “green space” last fall. The items in the park include a park bench, fence and stone pavers. On Saturday, August 14th from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., there will be an Electronics Recycling Collection Day for residential and small business collection only at the Williamson Town Complex parking lot. There are charges of $5 for each monitor and a $10 for each television set and/or microwave that is dropped off. All other items will be accepted at no charge. The following electronic items will be accepted:
COMPUTER EQUIPMENT
• Monitors, computers, terminals, printers, network equipment, keyboards, mice, modems, routers, hubs, computer accessories
MISCELLANEOUS ELECTRONICS
• Circuit boards, cable and wiring, typewriters, fax machines, telecommunications equipment, audio/visual equipment, video game systems, cell phones, PDA’s, IPODS, universal power supplies, scanners
• Televisions, toner/inkjet cartridges, batteries
• Microwave ovens
The following items WILL NOT be accepted:
• Air conditioners, dehumidifiers, any liquids, light bulbs (especially fluorescent bulbs), kitchen/personal appliances, small gas powered equipment, vacuum cleaners, fans, any and all household hazardous waste materials
