We have had approximately 230 Boaters so far this season ask for a key to our facilities in the Port of Newark (restrooms, shower and laundry facilities) which indicates they are spending the night. So far this year we have had Boaters from 30 States and 6 different Countries. Many of the Boaters spend several nights in Newark as they enjoy the various services we have in our Village that is all with-in a five or six minute walk from our Port.
The following pictures were taken on the evening of July 28 and on the early morning of July 29. On this evening we had thirteen (13) boats.

Newark's investment in first class facilities is paying off. Downtown merchants from the Newark Diner to Canalview restaurant, Parkers Pub, as well as the library and our two museums are reporting high usage by visitors. Boaters, bikers trail users and other visitors are spreading the word. Sunday concerts have been a plus.
The Newark Village Board and Chamber of Commerce should be commended for partnering in the Port effort.

My boater friends stopped by last week on the way to Spencerport. "What a wonderful setup" they said, referring to the Chamber of Commerce and dock people who were very helpful to them. The person at the Chamber directed them to the clock museum and the Corner Tavern, which they enjoyed.

I agree I stop up there every week or so and Newark did it right. Don't know if I agree that boaters have a great economic impact on stores but I think local villagers should visit it more to enjoy the area.
