Conversation with the Mayor

A week or so ago I went to the presentation made by Finger Lakes Ambulance at the Palmyra Town Hall. More on that later. I decided to clock the mileage from my house to the Town Hall using Foster, Stafford and Temple Road and approaching it from the south and then, completing the loop, from the Town Hall home. The total mileage was 3.6 miles, 2.9 going and .6 coming home. Interesting? Yes. Annoying? Not really, perhaps because I don’t have to do it on a regular basis. My sympathy goes to the folks who do have to go around Robin Hood’s barn every day, but for right now there is no alternative. Inconvenience is an integral part of construction and this construction was sorely needed and we are very, very fortunate that we received the stimulus funding to do it. Please, for your own safety, do not disregard the directional signs and drive south in the construction area. The time you save is not worth the risk you take. The good news is that the project is coming along nicely and, barring weather delays, should be finished in the projected time frame.

The meeting at the Town Hall was excellent or so it seemed from the response of the audience, residents of the Town and Village of Palmyra. After a brief power point presentation by Field Operations Supervisor JR Miller, questions on everything from ambulance staffing and response time to current and future technology were asked asnd answered. If you have not been able to attend one of the informational meetings, go to www.fingerlakesambulance.com where you will find a wealth of information about the organization including a section dedicated to Palmyra residents. It contains a letter from Ken Kelly, Director of Operations and General Manager and a FAQ ( frequently asked questions ) screen. If you would like to invite representatives of Finger Lakes Ambulance to meet with a group to which you belong, call them at 315-462-5701.

The only thing better than a smile is a good laugh and if it is accompanied by good, upbeat, fun music, so much the better. When the opportunity appears to enjoy an evening of music and laughther, my advice is to take advantage of it. You can do that on Monday, October 11th, when The Red Elvises come to the Palmyra VFW, presented by the Palmyra Pirates of the Erie Canal. Described as an ‘eclectic mix of Russian folk music and 50’s rockabilly/surf music’, they make their patrons smile. It’s a great show for 12 and up at a great venue. We were lucky to snag them as they are en route from Michigan to a performance in Syracuse on the 12th. Tickets are $10 in advance, $12 at the door. They are available from members of the Pirates Committee and at the Village and Town Halls. The Red Elvises may not come this way again for a long time, so put October 11th on your calendar now. You will be glad you did.
