The Newark girls’ tennis team had a 1-1 midweek record, losing a tight match to Pal-Mac on Wednesday after beating Wayne Central on Tuesday.
On their home court Tuesday afternoon, the Lady Reds took a 4-1 victory over Wayne with senior co-captains Allison Wilck and Katelyn Zonneville getting strong wins. Allison won in straight sets at first singles, 6-2, 6-0, and Katelyn took second singles, 6-3, 6-4. Newark won both doubles matches with Elizabeth Erway and Lindsay Ochs winners at first doubles, 6-4, 7-5, and Kelsey Rossignol and Kelly Eberle sweeping second doubles, 6-3, 6-0.
The Red Raiders conquered Newark Wednesday. “We lost three close, three-set matches to an outstanding Pal Mac team,” said Newark coach jack Fisher. “In a highlight battle of unbeatens at first singles, Allison Wilck, who was undefeated at home, faced an undefeated Marie Black in a outstanding match. Allison won the first set, 6-2, but lost in the final set on a scoring error, 5-7 for her first home loss.”
