Drawing on the success of last years' Scarecrow Contest, the Lyons Main Street Program's PumpkinPalooza Committee has expanded the contest to capture not only the Elementary School classes but the Middle School/High School, and adult classifications as well. Any organization, class, group or individual can register (free) to claim their downtown lamppost on which they can install or display their creation. A lamppost will be assigned to each registrant and it will be their responsibility to install and remove their entry. Registrants may decorate their lamppost to coordinate or add to the overall design of their scarecrow creating a vignette with harvest materials of hay bales, pumpkins, corn stalks, etc. All entries must be registered with the Lyons Main Street Program (forms available at the LMSP office or downloaded from the LMSP website - www.lyonsmainstreetprogram.org ) to be assigned a downtown lamppost and must installed no later than Friday, October 8th. Scarecrow materials should be weather proof and be firmly attached to the scarecrow so as to prevent weather related damage. It is recommended that all scarecrows be secured in multiple places with standard green floral wire.
Beginning September 27th, the LMSP will begin it's "Fall Into Fun" decorating contest for all Lyons' businesses and residents. Starting that date, Lyonites should be on the lookout for fall ribbons and streamers throughout the downtown and 31 business corridor promoting PumpkinPalooza! The LMSP is asking businesses and residents alike to be as creative as possible when decorating for fall harvest and/or Halloween decorations. Capture your fall fantasy or show off your ghoulish side with decorations to help us promote ALL THINGS LYONS with PumpkinPalooza! The LMSP would appreciate an email or a phone call to let us know your address if you will be decorating so we won't miss your efforts when we send our panel of judges by to check out your display, especially if your display is lit at night! Judging will be Thursday, October 14th and winners announced Friday, October 15th.
Please contact the Lyons Main Street Program (315) 871-4220 for further information.
