McKenzie Beltrone scored twice for Marion Friday night,
leading the Black Knights into the Sectionals semifinals.

WAYNE COUNTY (Oct 30 10) – McKenzie Beltrone scored twice and three other Knights found the back of the net Friday night as the top-seeded Marion girls got past a game squad of Golden Gophers from Pavillion, 5-3.
The Class C quarterfinal game, played at Marion, was a seesaw battle well into the second half – Beltrone scored with an assist from Brittani Bove in the seventh minute – and Pavillion’s Danielle Tallo answered five minutes later. Allison Campbell, with Ilana Soudan assisting, put Marion ahead again, 2-1, and that was the score at halftime.

Pavillion’s Audra McDonald tied the game in the seventh minute of the second half, and four minutes later, Jessa Blondell once again put the Knights ahead. Olivia Griep put Pavillion’s last goal in the net in the 26th minute, knotting the score again, at 3-3.
A minute later, Beltrone got her second goal –and the game-winner – on a feed from Kasey Levan. Bove connected on an insurance goal in the 31st minute. Morgan Statt stopped three shots in goal for the win.
The Knights will now meet Geneseo, a 3-1 winner over York, in a semifinal game Tuesday night.
In the Class A bracket, Newark’s quest for a second upset win in a row was ended by Mercy, 4-0, on Friday night. The Lady Reds had gotten to the quarterfinals by beating higher-seeded Pittsford Sutherland, 2-1.
Two Wayne County teams contesting the Class B sectionals, Williamson and North Rose-Wolcott, both saw their seasons end Friday night. Williamson was blanked by Holley, 4-0, while the NR-W Cougars were eliminated by a single LeRoy goal in the 26th minute of the second half.
Fifth-ranked Gananda yielded two first-half goals to Caledonia-Mumford, and a third goal in the second half to see the season end, 3-0, in the Class CC quarterfinal on Friday.
Lyons was eliminated in the first round of the Class C bracket by second-seeded Keshequa, 8-0. Elisabeth McGory stopped 15 shots for the Lions.
