Again this year, the Lyons Main Street Program is sponsoring the "Light Up Lyons Holiday Lights Parade" and we are looking for bright lights, merry music as well as fun and festive entries. The concept of the parade is simple: anything that can be ridden, driven, guided, carried, pushed, pulled, marched, walked, dragged, or schlepped down the parade route is covered with lights (think portable generators, lights that can be plugged into vehicle outlets or battery operated) and lit up for all to enjoy. We strongly encourage creativity and the use of your imagination and this year, we have added a special contingency just for man's best friend called "Holiday Hounds". Dress up your pooch in antlers or Santa hat, string lights down and around their leash and collar or go all out and build a mini-float on a wagon to showcase your furry friend. Again, imagination (and cooperation from the pup!) is the key as there will be a prize awarded to the merriest of mutts. All canine entries must be leashed or carried to keep them safe.
The Light Up Lyons Holiday Lights Parade steps off at 5 pm from the intersection of William and Broad Streets and will travel south on Broad to Church Street, east on Church Street to William Street and north on William to disperse at Broad Street. There will be cash prizes awarded to the first place winners in each of three categories: Most Creative, Best Use of Lights and Most Festive Music. Registration is free and encouraged to assist with the line-up process. Line-up will begin at 4:15 pm on William Street heading north from the Lyons Elementary School to Broad Street. All entries are asked to enter the parade staging and line-up area from the intersection of William and Queen as the north entrance to William Street at Broad Street will be closed off to prevent entry.
New for this year are vendor booths that will be set up at the Village Square Park to offer hot foods and crafts. Any business or organization that would like to set up a holiday themed booth to offer decorations, evergreens and such should contact the Lyons Main Street Program at 315-871-4220 or via email at lyonsmainstreetprogram@gmail. com. Electricity is available to light your booth and the cost for booth space is free however, on a limited first come, first served, "no compete" basis.
