Conversation with the Mayor
When I was a youngster I loved stationary stores - pads, pencils, pens, leather binders. The shops all smelled so good. I especially liked the notebooks - thick, thin, large, small. It didn't matter. They all spoke to me and consumed my allowance. A notebook invited me to write; to record what I saw; to commit my plans to paper, and to evaluate the success of those plans later. I had no thoughts of writing the world's greatest novel or becoming a noted journalist. The doing of the writing and the recording were, and remain, a pleasure.
Writing today, it occurs to me that the new year, soon upon us, offers each of us that brand new inviting page to write upon, to make it our own, and to enjoy it as we do so. In each of our lives there is much that we cannot control, but we can control our attitudes and reactions to those factors. Hold that thought as, with family and friends, you toast the new year. See your glass half full and it will likely be so.
Happy Holidays!
