   WAYNE COUNTY (Jan 12 11) – Alfred University sophomore center Bryan Bobo (Wayne) provided the defense Tuesday night by sweeping a game-high 13 rebounds and blocking two shots as the Saxons dominated Elmira College, 82-71. He also scored four points and made three assists in the win. Junior forward Pat Hollenbeck (Wayne) contributed one rebound to the win for Alfred, which is now 7-5 (2-2 Empire-8).




   Keuka College has just one win this season, a 52-51 nail-biter over St. Lawrence University that occurred right before the Christmas break. Freshman guard Adam Stephens (Pal-Mac) has played in every game for the Storm, starting in eight contests for 1-8 Keuka. In that St. Lawrence win, he had nine points, one rebound, four assists and two steals. He’s fourth on the team in scoring (7.4 pts per game) and second in assists with 25.
   The Storm is in action tonight against Cobbleskill.

   Canisus College senior forward Greg Logins (Sodus/Kent School) scored 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds but the Golden Griffins got beaten by a buzzer-beater put-back shot by Rider’s Novar Gadson on Sunday afternoon.
   The loss drops Canisius to 7-8 (1-4 MAAC).

   Nazareth College sophomore guard Tyshun Stephens (Newark) led the Golden Flyers mento a 79-71 win over RIT Tuesday night, breaking a three-game losing streak and providing the first Empire-8 Conference win for the hometowners.
   He was 6-for-9 from the field (3-for-5 from three-point range), leading Nazareth in scoring. He also grabbed three rebounds, made four assists, had a block and a steal. The Flyers are 8-5 (1-3 E-8).

   The Roberts Wesleyan women are 1-1 on the new year after beating Carlow College on Thursday, 79-62. Sophomore Marissa Bunce (Newark) had nine points, an assist and two steals for the Raiders; senior forward Brittany McMillon (Lyons) added eight points, five rebounds and five assists.
   Wesleyan is 9-7 (2-2 AMC).
                 Track
   Nazareth College opened its track season at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open on Friday at Cornell University. Junior Tim Rutan (Wayne) ran to a second place in the 500-Meter Dash (1:18.46), was fourth in the 1000 Meters (3:08.01) and ran the second leg of the fifth-place 4-by-400-Meter Relay (4:05.91).
                 Swimming
   The University of Pittsburgh at Bradford won its dual meet with Frostburg State on Friday, 106-84, and senior Jacob DeVolder (Newark) had a hand in the victory – he was second in the 200 Free (2:03.58) and fourth in the 500 Free (5:43.82).

   Rochester Institute of Technology brought its season mark to 3-3 with a 128-69 win over Utica on Saturday.
   Freshman Jocelyn Bade (Gananda) won the 1000 Free for RIT in 10:56.76.

Two wins at Virginia

                 Wrestling            
   The University of Buffalo wrestling team went 2-3 at the 31st annual Virginia Duals over the weekend. The Bulls scored quite an upset over the University of Virginia on Friday morning, 23-12, but then lost to 15th-ranked Michigan in the afternoon, 27-9.
  Redshirt freshman 125-pounder Sean Walton (Pal-Mac) was pinned by Virginia’s Matt Snyder in the morning, and lost an 11-0 major decision to Michigan’s Sean Boyle in the afternoon.
   On Saturday, Buffalo knocked off Rider, 30-9, lost to the University of Wyoming, 23-12, and then lost to Edinboro State, 24-21.
   Sean got a first-period pin over Rider’s Chuck Zeisloft, lost to Wyoming’s Mike Martinez 14-6, but came back to pin Edinboro’s Bijan Banks in 1:25.
                 Honors
   University of Buffalo freshman Javon McCrea (Newark) was named Male Athlete of the Week on Monday. He averaged 12.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.0 steals in games against Cornell and Bowling Green the prior week.
   In the double overtime contest against Bowling Green to open MAC play on Saturday, Javon came off the bench to score 18 points and pull down nine rebounds in just 26 minutes. He finished the week making the 12 of 14 field goal attempts and leads the Bulls with 7.0 rebounds per game and is third in scoring at 9.2 points per game. What a great start to his collegiate career.
