SUBMITTED by Irene Unterborn, Liberty House Bed & Breakfast (5-Jan-2011)

Boy Scout Troop 96 is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction to benefit one of their own on January 22, 2011 at the Palmyra Moose Lodge from 4-6pm. Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $4.00 for children 12yrs and under, and $20.00 per family.

Philmont Scout Camp in Summer 2009
Shawn Habecker is a lifelong resident of the Palmyra-Macedon area, and Assistant Scout Master for Troop 96. Just a little over a year ago, he led the scouts to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, where they tested their scouting abilities and hiked over 110 miles! Shawn is not only a fine example for youth in the scouting movement (he is Eagle Scout himself), but also a wonderful father and loving husband.

First Day of Chemo
In August 2010, Shawn was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ewings Sarcoma. He has a lengthy recovery ahead, with numerous chemotherapy treatments designed to shrink the tumor and an eventual surgery to remove it. Once he recovers from the surgery, he will resume the costly chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

For benefit dinner tickets, or to make any donations to the family, please contact any Boy Scout in Troop 96, or call Valerie Van Dongen at 315-573-6001. Troop 96 thanks you!
