Beginning on Wednesday, March 2nd, the Newark Public Library will be offering a new story time program called, “The Edge” that is geared toward preparing 3 to 5 year old children for kindergarten. Through the use of books, song and art, children will learn basic skills and information that will prepare them for kindergarten. The focus will be on letter recognition, letter sounds, shapes, colors, counting and number recognition. Stacey Wicksall, a New York State certified teacher-librarian, will run each hour long story time session at 10:00 every Wednesday morning.
There is no fee to attend, but registration will be required for an 8 week session. Children may be registered by either calling the library at 331-4370 or by stopping by the library in person. The deadline to register for the first 8 week session of “The Edge” kindergarten readiness program is Monday, February 28th. Space is limited and advance registration is required.
