The Great Lakes Seaway Trail, the 518-mile National Scenic Byway that runs alongside the St. Lawrence River, Lake Ontario, Niagara River, and Lake Erie in New York and Pennsylvania, now has a satellite office in Webster, NY.
Seaway Trail, Inc. Director of Business Relations Kurt Schumacher will staff the new Webster office located in the Van Ingen building owned by the Town of Webster behind the Town Hall on Ridge Road.
The connection between the Town of Webster and Seaway Trail Inc. was facilitated by the Webster Community Coalition for Economic Development which undertook a town-wide search for space to accommodate the Great Lakes Seaway Trail office. Arrangements for use of the space were negotiated with Town Supervisor Ron Nesbitt.
The Webster community will be provided with free marketing and ad space in the annual Great Lakes Seaway Trail Travel Magazine.
Seaway Trail, Inc., the not-for-profit membership organization that promotes tourism and economic development along the two-state byway, is headquartered in Sackets Harbor, NY.
According to Seaway Trail, Inc. President and CEO Teresa Mitchell, “Having this new satellite office in Webster will enable Seaway Trail, Inc. to further fulfill its mission to increase tourism revenues and to enhance the economic well-being and quality of life for travelers, communities, and members throughout the Great Lakes Seaway Trail region.”
Schumacher is focused on maximizing the value that the Great Lakes Seaway Trail National Scenic Byway can bring to local business members and to the overall economic impact for the region.
“Recent Great Lakes Seaway Trail initiatives have been a driving force in attracting visitors to the region to experience the incredible scenic beauty, cultural and historical significance, and world-class attractions found only along the byway. Projects focusing on geocaching, French and Indian War and War of 1812 history, and outdoor experiences are having a positive effect in terms of the number of visitors and the economic impact those visitors have on local economies,” Schumacher said.
The Great Lakes Seaway Trail was among the first roads in America designated as National Scenic Byways in 1996. Great Lakes Seaway Trail travelers can enjoy unique destinations such as Presque Isle, Niagara Falls, and the Thousand Islands, the exciting cities of Erie, Buffalo, and Rochester, and other charming towns and villages along the byway. A Lake Erie Seaway Trail Visitor Center is located in Hamburg, NY.
