SUBMITTED by Maureen Weidman, Cornell Cooperative Extension (18-Apr-2011)
Breastfeeding classes are continuing every Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm at Cornell Cooperative Extension of Wayne County at 1581 Route 88N, Newark.
This week we will be discussing "How to tell if a Baby is Getting Enough Milk". Many parents choose bottle feeding so that they know exactly how much the baby has eaten, to give them a greater sense of control, because they believe that formula will help the baby sleep longer, and that it will provide the overwhelmed family with a break.
Come to class to see how feeding formula to a breastfed baby can decrease a mother’s milk supply, interfere with development of baby’s immune system, and make it difficult for baby to learn how to get a good, effective latch.
Learn how improper bottle feeding can lead to overfeeding and possible obesity in the future if artificial milk is fed.
More importantly, discover how much a newborn baby can truly hold in their stomachs starting the first 24 hours and as they get older.
Learn the cues that the baby gives to let you know when they are hungry or satisfied.
Learn how to know if the baby is getting fed enough to grow, to be happy, and to be healthy.
Learn about newborn behaviour, what is normal, and much more.
With timely information and support, most mothers will gain confidence in their own ability to provide all of baby’s nutritional needs by breastfeeding because...it's normal.
You are welcome to attend at any time for information and support. If the classes are not convenient, another time can be set up that is most convenient for you. We can also visit you to help with breastfeeding issues after the baby is born.
Please call 315-331-8415 x205 to learn what we have to offer or register for classes.
We look forward to meeting you!
