Wayne County Council for the Arts is pleased to present Oil Paintings by KEITH TYLER. Over the last couple of months, Wayne Arts was working with Mr. Tyler to exhibit his art work in May. He became very excited about this opportunity. On April 11th, Mr. Tyler passed away peacefully. His family felt “the show should go on”.
Mr. Tyler had provided Wayne Arts with the following information for our public relations piece: “I graduated from Newark High School in 1959 and was lucky enough to have Mr. Hawver for an art teacher. I entered various works of art in the Sibley, Lindsay & Curr art show. I won several awards including the gold key. Myself and another student were selected by the Newark art club to attend a summer school at the college in New Paltz, New York. They kept three of my paintings for their museum. As a student in Newark High, several of my paintings were hung throughout the school. I graduated in 1959 and entered the army. Upon discharge, I was employed by the telephone company. I sold paintings to individuals in Panama and people at the telephone company who were sending them to Ireland, London and the U.S. as gifts. I have done a few portraits, however, I like doing landscapes much better. I have 50 paintings at home at present. As a result of a stroke which left me with a balance problem, I was lucky that was the only long term problem. With the support of Ronald Williams, Mary Adriaansen, two former classmates, and my wife of 51 years, I was convinced to start painting again and has proved to be a great outlet.”
In addition to Mr. Tyler’s paintings, we will be celebrating a “Month of Quilts”. The purpose of our exhibit is to share with, and educate our community on the wide range of fiber art talent in Wayne County as well as provide an opportunity to display the work of area contemporary quilt artists.
The Exhibit will run from May 7th – 28th, 2011. The public is invited to an opening reception to be held on Saturday, May 7th, 1:00 to 3:00 pm.
