Music is in the Air – 2011 Summer Music Schedule

The hills are alive with the sound of music…meaning “Ye Hills of Wayne”, a poem made famous by Mary Ashley Townsend. Various groups and organizations in Wayne County are hosting numerous “music” events throughout the summer. “There is something for everyone,” says Christine Worth, director of Tourism. “No matter what your choice in music genre Wayne County has it all this summer.”

The Canaltown Chorale will perform it’s spring concert, “A Patriotic Salute”, on Saturday, June 4 at 3pm at the Palmyra VFW-Post 6778 located at 4306 State Rt. 31 E. in Palmyra. Some of the songs to be performed include Keep the Home Fires Burning, America the Beautiful, A Tribute to the Armed Services, I Believe in America, Give Me Your Tired Your Poor, God Bless America, Thank you Solders and Battle Hymn of the Republic. The Chorale will be under the direction of Mr. Jerry Hefley and Ms. Kay Oosterling will accompany on piano. A suggested donation of $5.00 per person will be accepted at the door.

Summer of Roses Event Series - Rose Union Community Building. Featuring performing artists from the area. Free! 7pm to 8pm, School Street, Rose. June 16, 23, 30; July 7, 14, 21, 28 and August 4,11,18,25

Sodus Bay Lighthouse Free Sunday Summer Concert Series – The afternoon concerts are presented at the Lighthouse Gazebo with lawn seating in the village park adjacent to the Museum. The Concerts are free but please bring your own seating. The Sodus Bay Lighthouse is located at 7606 N. Ontario Street in Sodus Point.
  • July 4 - Gap Mangione Big Band… a holiday tradition! (2-4pm). Swing and Jazz Music led by a Regional (and Local) Favorite!
  • July 10 - Finger Lakes Symphony Pops (2-4pm). Pops music featuring Old favorites, Light Classics, Patriotic, and Broadway Show tunes
  • July 17 - Ice Cream Social & Nostalgic Reunion (1-4 pm). Ice Cream Sundaes start a relaxing afternoon of music featured from the 1930’s, 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.
  • July 24 - The Dady Brothers (2-4pm). Performing a wide range of musical styles: Country, Folk, Irish, Bluegrass
  • July 31 - The Critics (2-4pm). Seven pieces of High Energy Syracuse based band playing R&B, Rock-n- Roll, Oldies, Soul, Pops, Old Favorites and more.
  • Aug. 7 - The Damascus Shriner’s Band (2-4pm). Stirring performance by more than 25 musicians playing an array of marches and good old American favorites!
  • Aug. 14 - Panloco Steel Band (2-4pm). Versatile Steel Drum Band playing traditional island music plus Jazz, Calypso, and Soca
  • Aug. 21 - Dan Elliott and the Monterays (2-4pm). Ice Cream Sundaes, Rock & Roll music that’s sure to bring back nostalgic memories by CNY’s top R&R oldies band since 1963.
  • Aug. 28 - Fiddlers of the Genesee (2-4pm). A wide variety of Good Ol Tyme Fiddle Music
  • Sept. 4 - Brad Batz & the Rhythm Aces Big Band (2-4pm). All your Big Band favorites from Miller, Dorsey, Goodman, Ellington and more.
Firefly Concert Series at the Patio Stage: Free musical concerts take place on the lawn of the Williamson Public Library (rain or shine). Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy! The library is located at 6380 Route 21, Williamson NY.

Village of Lyons Band Concerts: Free summer concerts take place in the village central park, across from the courthouse. Bring a lawn chair and relax to the music. 7pm

Music on the Erie Series - Come and enjoy music on the canal at T. Spencer Knight Park in Newark. Bring your own lawn chair. 6pm to 8pm, Free.

Brantling Bluegrass Festival: The 3rd Annual Brantling Bluegrass Festival will be held August 4-6 at Brantling Ski Slopes in Sodus. This three-day event will bring families, from near and far, together for 3 exciting days of music. Families can enjoy camping, hiking the slopes, fishing in the pond, and offerings from food and craft vendors.

CNY Wine & Jazz Fest August 6: This festival is presented by the Wolcott Chamber of Commerce and the Lions Club. It takes place in historic downtown Wolcott. Over twenty Upstate New York wineries are scheduled to offer tasting and sales amidst a backdrop of great live jazz entertainment. 11am to 8pm.

Jammin’ with the Animals: The 6th Annual Music Fest at Cracker Box Palace takes place on August 20. from noon 'til the cows come home! Bands, food, and fun all afternoon and evening, featuring Nashville recording artists WELLS HOLLOW and many others that are long-time favorites! Bring your lawn chair; picnics and coolers welcome but please, no glass. Admission: donation. Cracker Box Palace is located at 6450 Shaker Road, Alton.

The Fifth Annual Ontario Barn Bluegrass Festival takes place on September 3rd from 11am to 7pm. The festival will feature all day live music, BBQ, arts & crafts, promotion of solar energy, apple picking, free ice cream and face painting and lots of fun! Bring the entire family! The festival is located at Ontario Barn Vineyards, 513 Whitney Road, Ontario, NY.
