SUBMITTED by Dr. John R. Boronkay, Wayne-Finger Lakes BOCES (13-May-2011)
Wayne Technical and Career Center will be opening its doors to adult students June 7th from 5 - 8:00 pm who are interested in seeing what BOCES can offer that might benefit them. I was touring around Jocelyn VanGelder from the Department of Labor and Kathy Templar from workforce development on Nye Road. We came to the conclusion that people need to see what is available at BOCES--not just hear about it. So, this is the result. As my principal at WTCC Craig Logan often says, Wayne Tech can't fit between the covers of a handout.
There will be food and refreshments provided by the culinary arts students and opportunities for adults to talk with our auto tech teacher, metal trades instructors, chef and cosmetology teachers. They, and I, live and work in Wayne County.
According to the most recent data on workforce needs, the "Middle Level Skills Gap" is large. Employers need employees with hands on skills and the work habits needed for customer service.
I invite you to look at BOCES. "It's not your father's Oldsmobile".
RSVP 315 332 7317 so we know how much food to prepare. This will be leisurely and self-guided. I look forward to seeing you.
