The Newark Pilots of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League will play their first ever home game on Friday, June 17th against the Watertown Wizards. Opening night is sponsored by Big Dog Country 103.5 FM. Gates open at 6 p.m. with game time scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Renovations at Colburn Park include a new scoreboard in left field as well news lights and a new entrance. The concourse and field have also been improved. Refreshments will be available at the concession stands, and Pilots' merchandise will be on sale at "The Hangar" souvenir shop when gates open at 6 p.m.
Fans who arrive early will be entertained with country tunes from John Braun of J.B. & Company in the concourse. There will be plenty of entertainment for the kids, including clowns, face painting and a bounce house. Contests and on-field games will be held between innings.
The first pitch of the Pilots' home opener will be thrown out by the Village of Newark Mayor Peter M. Blandino. The National Anthem will be performed by the Chancel Choir of the First United Methodist Church, Newark, N.Y. The color guard will be presented by the Palmyra American Legion.
Friday night's home opener is one of three fireworks nights throughout the season. Following the fireworks show, head over to Parker's Grille, the official restaurant of the Newark Pilots, located at 206 South Main Street in Newark for a postgame celebration. Bring your ticket stubs to receive half off any appetizer.
Tickets for the Newark Pilots' home opener and all 2011 home games are on sale now at the Wegmans on West Miller Street in Newark. General admission tickets are $4 for adults and $3 for children and seniors.
