NYS Senator David Valesky, D-Oneida, represents the 49th Senate District, and is a member of the Independent Democratic Conference in the Senate. State Sen. He will be present at B. Forman Park in Pultneyville, NY on July 13, 2011 from 4 pm - 8 pm for a Democratic Picnic event. David Valesky has made plenty of news this week, with two bills he sponsored passing the New York State Senate and another bill he supported passing the chamber. A bill Valesky and his Independent Democratic Conference colleagues supported, S614B, passed the state Senate 60-0. The bill, according to a press release from Valesky and the IDC, would "allow the New York State Urban Development Corp./ Empire State Development Corp. to be able to extend grants and loans that will help create, or upgrade, distribution networks between New York farmers and food distributors, processors, and purchasers such as supermarkets and farmer's markets."

The state Senate also passed two bills sponsored by Valesky. One bill, S4235, relates to elder abuse and would help promote domestic violence prevention programs at senior centers.
"As more New Yorkers age, the issue of elder abuse and domestic violence is unfortunately becoming more prevalent," Valesky said. "By providing preventative educational programs at senior centers, this legislation provides another avenue to help seniors who may be affected."
