Blue skies, crystal clear water foaming with waves and white caps, and steady winds greeted competitors at last year’s Annual Bob Lamberton Sunfish Revival Regatta sponsored by the Pultneyville Mariners. Fourteen Sunfish sailboats, both race and recreational, competed in the races. Gentle morning winds rose to 10 to 15 knots in the afternoon, with a peak gust recorded at 18.7 knots. This made for great racing, as sailors employed a variety of tactics on windward and leeward legs.
This year’s event will be held on Saturday, July 16th in conjunction with Pultneyville Homecoming. To make the races more exciting for spectators watching from shore, the course is set up as close as possible to the PMI beach area. In addition, race “play by play” and results will be broadcast to the beach area from the Committee boat. Visitors to the Pultneyville Homecoming will be treated to the sight of multi-colored Sunfish skimming back and forth over Lake Ontario on, we hope, another perfect summer afternoon. Those wishing to join in as racers, check out the Pultneyville Mariner’s website at www.sailpmc.org. Racing begins at 10 AM, breaks for lunch and resumes @ 1 PM. Stop down and experience the fun.
The 54th Pultneyville Homecoming is an annual community celebration held in Historic Pultneyville and will be on Fri. July 15, Sat. July 16 & Sun. July 17, 2011. Visitors from both near and far will enjoy many traditional events – an antique show, parade, antique cars and boats, a Gilbert & Sullivan production, an auction, a concert in Centennial park, and sunfish regatta along with many new events – a 5K race, a hole-in-one contest, pony rides and children’s games. Live music, an art show, wine-tasting, folk art and primitives are among a long list of things that can be enjoyed at local businesses in the immediate area.
