Even though individuals get recognized, it was a total team effort that allowed the Sodus Spartan Softball Team to post a 13-2 record this year. They finished tied with Gananda for the Wayne County League Championship.
During the season they split with Gananda and were the first team to beat Gananda in 47 games. The team concentrated on attitude and effort, two criteria that you can control.
Coach Lynda Faulks was chosen Section V Class B Coach of the Year.
Sarah Johnson was chosen as Wayne County Player of the Year, the first time a Sodus player has received this honor. She had a .556 batting average and won 11 games from the pitching circle .
Named to the first team Wayne County All Stars were Senior Pitcher Johnson as well as Senior catcher Allison Switzer who batted .500, and Junior second baseman Brooke Ludden who batted .397. Ludden also pitched in three games, winning one and saving two, and had only one error while starting every game at second base.
Named to the second team Wayne County All Stars were senior first baseman Nikki Case who batted .388. Nikki also had the RBI’s that beat Gananda, Junior shortstop Caylee Hanson who batted .412, and Sophomore centerfielder Sarah Latulipe who batted .475.
Jessica Wren batted .421 and was named to the third team Wayne County All Stars.
In addition to the Section V and Wayne County league awards, at the Sodus Spring Sports Banquet, Coach Lynda Faulks also presented the MVP award to Sarah Jonson, the coaches’ award to Nikki Case, the sluggers award to Allison Switzer, and the rookie of the year award to Sierra Demaree.
