Racing was canceled Saturday night at the Canandaigua Motorsports Park, but last week, local guys were in the forefront. Mike Minotulo (Newark) outdueled his son Marc Minotulo (Newark) in the Pure Stock final to get the win, Mike’s second of the season. Marc already has a win and has been consistent enough to grab second place in the standings – 69 points ahead of dad.
Mike led all 10 laps for the win. Marc was in second place into the last turn, but skidded across the front straightaway in view of the checkered. George LaVare (Palmyra) took fifth and bumped himself into the leadership of the Pure Stock division.
In the Street Stock Car division, Mike Welsh (Lyons), who started the season with back-to-back wins but hasn’t held the flag since, broke through on the fifth lap and got his third victory of the season, attributing the success to engine builder Sonny Barron. Andy Williamson (Williamson) was fifth. The win put Mike in the division lead, 10 points ahead of second-place Nate Pekham.
Darryl Barrett won the New Legends Sportsman race, with Mike DeMallie (Clyde) fourth and Jon Ellsworth (Marion) sixth.
