Long Acre Farms, originators of the Amazing Maize Maze in New York, will be celebrating the 14th annual opening of the maze this month. The Maze has a new theme every year with a picture carved right into the corn. This year, guests will join “The Big Top” Circus and be part of the show.
The festivities will begin August 13 & 14 with Giving Back Weekend. The Amazing Maize Maze will be open from 10am to 4pm both days and tickets will be discounted to $8.00 (normally $10.50). At the ticket booth, visitors can choose to have Long Acre Farms donate $2.50 to one of two charities on their behalf. Long Acre Farms will be donating to the Bivona Child Advocacy Center and the Wayne County Chapter of the Red Cross. Tickets for Giving Back Weekend allow unlimited use of the maze and their “Back 40” area all day. The Back 40 has two new features: Super Speedway (a pedal cart-riding area with 2 different tracks) and the Spiderweb. The Back 40 has 12 attractions in all. The Farm Market and Ice Cream shop will also be open during the event.
Grand Opening Weekend will take place August 19-21 with regular maze ticket hours, 12pm to 6pm each day. Entrance to the maze for Grand Opening Weekend is $10.50 per ticket, which gives access to the Amazing Maize Maze and the Back 40. Maze merchandise such as t-shirts, magnets and postcards will be available in the Long Acre Farm Market.
The Sweet Corn Festival is held the last day of Grand Opening Weekend, August 21. From 12pm to 5pm, Long Acre Farms will be roasting and giving away sweet corn for free to celebrate the opening of the maze and the peak of the sweet corn season. Visitors will also be able to sample corn snacks like caramel corn nuggets, toasted corn and corn relish in the Farm Market. Another piece of the Sweet Corn Festival is the Ultra Lite Fly-In. Watch the planes land on the runway near Long Acre Farms and talk with some of the pilots.
