SUBMITTED by Theresa Streb (2-Aug-2011)
The August display at the Lyons Public Library, 122 Broad Street, contains dollhouses and room boxes created and decorated by Michael Newberg and Lori DiSanto of Lyons.
The display case is located near the circulation desk. Almost all the items are handcrafted except for the dolls, a few furniture pieces, the dollhouses and some accessories. The dollhouses include a yard sale house, Santa’s office at the North Pole and Lori’s Books. The room boxes include a front porch, bathroom, sewing room, kitchen and general store.
The two outdoor dioramas feature a roadside flower vendor and Rabbit’s house in the Secret Forest. Great care has been taken to create accurate portrayals of rooms and houses of times past. Michael and Lori have only been doing this hobby since November of last year. And their hobby reflects the simpler way of life that they prefer to live. Check out their website at www.freewebs.com/amishway_homesteaders.
