The ever-popular 28th annual Macedon Center Community Lumberjack Festival will be held Sept 10th-11th this year at Macedon Center Fireman’s Field. This unique regional event is two solid days of lumberjack competitions, expanded activities for kids, and a market area of crafts, collectibles, and commercial items. Gates open both days at 8 am. Amateur competition begins Saturday at 9 am, including log rolling, two-man crosscut, buck saw, chain saw, log chop, and tree falling. Equipment and safety gear will be provided.

The exciting grease-pole climb will take place at 4 pm Saturday, so gather up 4 people and get a team together! The pole is covered in Crisco so make sure you wear clothes you can throw away. New kids’ activities this year include a rock-climbing wall, and bird-house building with Lowes on Saturday from 10 am-1 pm.

World Champion Lumberjack Dave Jewett will be carving on Saturday and competing on Sunday. Sunday, professional competition starts at 10:30 am, including stock saw, single buck, and two-man crosscut. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day. The grease-pole final is Sunday at 5 pm, and cash/gift prizes will be awarded to the winners.

The Lumberjack Pancake Breakfast will be served at the Macedon Center fire hall, Saturday 7-11 am, and Sunday 8 am-noon. A variety of food will be available all day. For more information (or to register a team for the climb!), call 315-986-3732 or visit www.macedoncenterfire.org. Admission: $3 adults, $2 seniors, $1 kids 6-14, 5 and under free. Proceeds benefit the Macedon Center Volunteer Fire Dept, the Macedon Center Methodist Church, and the Macedon Historical Society. Macedon Center is just around the corner from everywhere, at Rte. 31F and Canandaigua Roads. See you there!
