The Lyons Main Street Program and Lyons Chamber of Commerce are working together to present a "last minute blast" to shop downtown Lyons on Friday, December 23rd. Many of the downtown and surrounding area businesses will be open until 9 pm "Christmas Eve Eve" to provide shoppers a local alternative to the sure-to-be-crowded malls and big box stores. Restaurants will offer specials and retailers will offer sales and discounts as well as light holiday snacks to keep your shopping energy levels up.
The Lyons Heritage Society's Gift Shoppe at the H.G. Hotchkiss Building will be open from 2-4 pm offering new peppermint candles and the popular Dotty Blackwell note cards. Santa will take a break from his North Pole toy shop long enough to visit Newberry's in downtown from 6 pm - 8 pm so bring your camera along with you for photos with the jolly man in red. The Girl Scouts will be singing carols and offering hot chocolate and treats for sale at Newberry's as well to help fund their trip to Washington DC for the 100th Anniversary of the Girl Scouts.

The Ohmann Theatre will make the idea of shopping downtown Lyons even more attractive by offering a free kids movie at 2 pm. "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" (with Jim Carrey as the Grinch you love to hate only to love him again!) will entertain the kids while mom and dad shop downtown Lyons.
As an additional treat for the kids, the Newark Pilots' mascot, Ace, will be on hand (children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or over - Santa will be watching for those that aren't nice!). Later in the day (4:30 pm and 7:30 pm) the Ohmann Theatre will present the new release "Mission Impossible 4" on one of the largest screens in the region. "MI-4" will continue its run at those same times throughout the holiday week until New Year's Day.
