Scarecrows in Macedon Village

The Village of Macedon is celebrating the fall season and Autumn on the Erie with scarecrows. Last year, Main St. was decorated with these clever creations and it truly brightened up the community. The business people will once again set up scarecrows in front of their stores beginning around October 1. This year there is a new thought. All residents are invited to participate with scarecrows in their own front yard. Enjoy the change of the season while having fun building your scarecrow. Finally, take a family walk or ride around the village and enjoy the fun.

Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society

Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society has an exciting evening with John Westerberg is planned on Wednesday, October 5th at 7:00 PM at Gates Hall in Pultneyville, NY! John spent from 1960-1968 "reforming and restructuring" the Pultneyville Players. John Connors directed the first play and later Bess Atlas worte and directed an original play about Pultneyville entitled "The Burned Over District". A revival of Langdon Mitchell's "The New York Idea" in which Brooks Tenney played a lead role along with many other plays occured later, usually including three to four plays a year. Other community names mentioned during an interview with John included: "Angie" D'Angelo, David Cooper, Stu Hotchkiss, Sylvia Bornarth, Carol Hopkins, Chet Peters, Barbara McCaw and Florence Cornwall.

In addition to his involvement with the Pultneyville Players, John was an original founder of the Pultneyville Historical Society in 1964. The focus of the society was on research and writing. John's involvement, of course, seems natural given his commitment to researching, preserving and sharing the written word! John took on the responsibility of Program Chairman at the time and from 1971-1973 was also Chairman for the America the Beautiful Fund at Gates Hall and authored a grant that led to early Gates Hall improvements. John's program entitled "The Yankee Peddler - 40 years; beginnings of the Williamson-Pultneyville Historical Society" is sure to provide John's insight and historical perspective as well as entertain guests! There are numerous intentional gaps in this article to entice you to hear more. Please come and celebrate with W-PHS the remainder of what John Westerberg has to share with us about his passion for books, his perspective on the changes that have taken place in this community and it past and current residents.

John invites those attending to bring one book that they would like to learn more about with them for the evening. At the end of his talk John will provde guests with his "honest" assessment of its significance. This program is free and open to all. Refreshments will be served - please come and enjoy an evening with John Westerberg.
