Having reached the objectives set forth by the founding Board of Directors of the Lyons Main Street Program, and as the program enters its fourth year of operation, a new generation of Board and Committee members are being sought to assist in defining the future direction of the downtown revitalization organization. Incorporated as a NYS Non-Profit Organization and operating under the model provided by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street Program, the LMSP concentrated on altering regional, as well as local, perception and focused on marketable positives over the past three years. The Directors worked to revive community pride and sense of ownership through cleanup and beautification projects as well as sponsoring shop local events, promotions, and Lyons Only festivals. The program has offered assistance to new businesses and to those individuals exploring the possibilities of starting a business in downtown Lyons. Fourteen businesses have opened in downtown Lyons since January 2009, ten in the past year of which seven have opened on Canal Street alone. As a reinvigoration organization, the LMSP has just begun to scratch the surface of revitalization possibilities that can keep our momentum moving forward. Much has been accomplished however, there is more to be done.

The Nominating Committee of the LMSP, Dr. Randolph Mitchell, Keith Bridger, and Sharon Lubitow, is inviting all Lyons residents and business owners to a 30-minute informational presentation at 7 pm on Thursday, February 16, at the Lyons Public Library Community Room. The group will offer a five minute DVD "introduction" to the Lyons Main Street Program and the rest of the time will be dedicated to a question and answer session with the goal of keeping the gathering to thirty minutes. The presentation is being offered to both inform and entice interested individuals that may find a place on the Board of Directors or one of the LMSP committees for their talents and experience while furthering Lyons' business and tourism future. Refreshments will be offered following the presentation for those that would like to engage in further discussion. For further information, please contact Sharon Lubitow at 315-398-8974.
