Help welcome the defending Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League champions, the Newark Pilots with their season opener on June 7th! The Newark Pilots won the PGCBL Championship Series over the Amsterdam Mohawks in 2011. After dropping game 1 to the Mohawks, the Pilots took the final two games of the series to win the inaugural PGCBL crown in their first season ever as a team. The losses were the Mohawks first two postseason losses since 2008. Amsterdam had won the 2009 and 2010 championship series and was on a 14-game playoff streak. Until Newark Pilots, Sean Osterman, hit a game winning home run in the top of the 11th inning and then Mark Scott preserved the win by closing off the bottom half of the inning. The Pilots never trailed in game three as they defeated the Mohawks one last time for the title.
The first 500 fans at Colburn Park will receive a poster of Sean Osterman, one of the four returning players from the Championship team. There will be a trophy ceremony prior to the game honoring the 2011 team, face painting and bounce houses for the kids, along with a fireworks display following the conclusion of the game.
Give your children, ages 13 and under, a chance to get closer to the action on field and sign up for the Junior Pilots Club! Membership to the club costs $10 and includes exclusive entrance to a pregame clinic, autographs sessions with the Pilots players, a pair of Junior Pilots Wings and a Junior Pilots t-shirt. Members will receive free admission to all the Newark Pilots home games when they wear their t-shirt and are accompanied by an adult. In addition, one member of the Junior Pilots Club will deliver the lineup card to the umpires at home plate prior to the start of every home game.
