ORLANDO, FL (Jun 23 12) – Three Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES practical nursing students emerged from national competition as medalists tonight – and a fourth earned top-ten honors – at the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) national leadership conference at the Disney Coronado Springs Resort.
Competing in the post-secondary/collegiate division, Meghan Congdon of Palmyra and Jessica Dull of Newark were gold medalists in the career health display judging, making their winning presentation on local, national and international volunteering opportunities for nurses. Tiffany Gantz of Rushville was a national silver medalist in the Pharmacology competition, and Erin Brady, Penn Yan, scored in the top 10 nationally in the medical math category.
The four competitors had earned the right to compete at the national level by earning medals at the New York State HOSA leadership conference in April. Tina Foster of Lyons and Darcy Corbett of Canandaigua were medalists in Syracuse who also competed in Florida.
HOSA has nearly 120,000 members through 47 chartered state associations and approximately 3,200 secondary and postsecondary/collegiate chapters. All of national competitors and their classmates are due to graduate in August after a year of study in the Wayne Finger Lakes BOCES practical nursing program.
