It was a bit
cold, a bit rainy, and a bit gloomy in Palmyra,NY on Friday morning, September
28, 2012, but that did not stop a LDS Church History Tour
Group from “reflecting” on the Erie Canal at Lock 29. The tourists marveled at
the architecture, the mechanics, and the awesome engineering of the Lock, now
over 100 years old.For many of the tourists, it was their first exposure to an
authentic and working lock. Although no boat locked through for the history
tourists, many still experienced the canal in a unique way- bravely standing
above the lock gates and “truly reflecting” on the Erie Canal.
Today was
the first day of a 9 day historical tour from Palmyra, NY to Keokuk, Iowa. The LDS Church History Tour group, 38 in
number, was composed of tourists from Sweden, California, Arizona, Idaho,
Colorado, and Utah.
