This St. Lawrence River map shows a 12-hour-ahead forecast for water depth and surface current speed. The map is part of the Great Lakes Observing System’s new Boaters Forecast: St. Lawrence River tool that is now being adapted for high-tech forecasting access for kayakers and canoeists.
Information on the new motorized and non-motorized boaters’ resource will be presented at the September 8, 2012, Great Lakes Underwater program 12-5pm at the Clayton Opera House in Clayton, NY.
Presenters will also talk about the historic weather patterns that may have impacted the sinking of the HMS Ontario sloop-of-war in 1780, the use of sidescan sonar to discover the 22-gun ship, and the ship’s destination of Fort Haldimand on Carleton Island.
