MACNY Representatives Visit in Albany

On March 6, Assemblyman and Ranking Minority Ways and Means Committee Member Robert Oaks (R,C-Macedon) discussed business issues affecting the 128th Assembly District with regional business leaders, including representatives of the Manufacturers Association of Central New York who visited his Albany office.

Readers Theater at Books, ETC.

Mar 20 – Readers Theater: On Tuesday, March 20 at 6:30 PM, Readers Theater at Books, ETC. Participants will be reading “The Tempest.” Those who attend may just listen or they can participate by reading one of the roles. There will also be a discussion of the passages and the play. Veteran Services Advisory Committee has First Meeting

Monday, March 12 marked the first meeting of a newly formed Veterans Services Advisory Committee. The meeting was initiated by Wayne County Action Program, Inc. (WCAP), as a component of the agency’s InVEST initiative. InVEST (Investing in Veterans through Education, Support and Training) is examining ways WCAP is currently providing services for Wayne County Veterans, and how these services can be enhanced. Key to this goal is non-duplication of services.

The meeting was well attended by many other agencies also with a goal to expand and enhance services for Veterans: American Legion; VFW; Wayne County Veteran Services Agency; Wayne Behavioral Health Network; Legal Assistance of Western NY; Finger Lakes Addictions Counseling and Referral Agency; Trail Works, Inc. and the Wayne County Board of Supervisors.

Where: Ontario Community Center @ Casey Park, 6551 Knickerbocker Rd., Ontario, NY
  • Approximately 1 mile north of Route 104, 3 miles south of Lake Road
This even is free and open to the public. Nordic Walking increases cardio by 30% and decreases joint pressure by 40%. Adventure Out! founder and Outdoor Recreation Guide, Julie Doyle-Foster will show you how to add Nordic Walking to your fitness routine. All you need to bring is your sense of adventure. Dress for outdoors / poles will be provided.

It’s time to grab poles and head out into the woods!

Civil War Exhibit to Close April 7th

"Civil War: The Newark Connection", a special exhibit in commemoration
of the 150th Anniversary of the start of the Civil War, will close
April 7th, at the Newark-Arcadia Historical Museum, 120 High St.,
Newark.

The exhibit includes portions of letters written home by Newark
soldiers. There are two diaries on display, with pages open to reveal
accounts by one held at a prisoner of war camp. A unique "Inscription
board", found at a local house, includes thoughts written in pencil
about the Conscription Act of 1863. View these and many more
interesting items when you visit!

The museum is open Saturdays, 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. (and at other times by
chance or by appointment). Admission is free, with donations accepted.
The museum has a research room and gift shop.

One of New York State's National Trust for Historic Preservation designated Main Street Communities, and organized as a not-for-profit downtown business improvement, business development, historic preservation, and revitalization organization, the Lyons Main Street Program is proud to announce the 2012-2013 Board of Directors.

Join the new Board of Directors at two LMSP scheduled community clean ups - this first is scheduled for Saturday, April 21 from 9 am until noon, Erie Canal Waterfront (both sides) between the bridges and the second is a downtown clean-up and spruce up on Saturday May 5th from 9 am until 1 pm. Bring gloves, appropriate tools, a friend or two, and a volunteer spirit!
